Word was received Monday, Nov. 16, of the death of Mrs. Alta Pebley, a lifetime resident of Craig, at a Colorado Springs Hospital that morning. She had been residing in Colorado Springs for several months.
The daughter of Fannie Lea and Franklin R. Cooper, she was born near Mound City April 8, 1902. She spent nearly all of her life as a resident of Holt County, much of it in Craig.
After graduating from Craig High School, Alta chose the teaching profession. She received her training at the State Teachers Colleges in Warrensburg and Maryville. During her career she taught at Cherrydale, Brush College, Glendale and the Craig schools.
On March 18, 1929, she was married to Frank Cameron Pebley in Smithville. He preceded her in death March 21, 1967.
Also preceded her in death were her parents; one brother, George Cooper; and two sisters, May Weaver and Nellie Vonderschmidt.
She is survived by one son, Franklin Jardine Pebley, and his wife, Nancy, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and her granddaughter, Katherine Jo O\\\'Neal.
Alta was a member of the Craig Presbyterian Church and taught the W.O. Class there for many years.
Services were held at 2 o\\\'clock Thursday afternoon, Nov. 19, at the Craig Presbyterian Church, in Craig, with the Rev. Wm. O. Yates officiating. Betty Wennihan, accompanied by Edythe Shipman, sang "How Great Thou Art", and "The Lord\\\'s Prayer."
Pallbearers were Doug Livengood, Keven Livengood, Jeff Livengood, Melvin Livengood, Derrick McGinness and Wilbur Wright.
Interment in the IOOF Cemetery, Craig, Mo.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home in Craig.
