Edith Isabel Schaeffer, 83, Craig, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Mo.

Mrs. Schaeffer was born in St. Joseph Dec. 30, 1916, to Mathias and Eunice Burton Van Kirk. She was raised in Fortescue and graduated from high school there in 1935.

She also lived in Oregon, Forest City, Forbes, Washington state for three years and south of Corning before moving to Craig in 1972.

On Sept. 12, 1935, she married Orrie Schaeffer. He survives of the home.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Craig Christian Church where she also taught Sunday school and played the piano. She was a member of the Lake Shore Club and was active in the Holt County Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Price; and two brothers, John and Joe Van Kirk.

Other survivors include four sons, James of Santee, Calif., Philip of Dearborn, Kenneth of Trimble and Keith of Columbia; a daughter, Eileen Dozier of Lowry City; three brothers, Ernest Van Kirk of Denber; Robert Van Kirk of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Albert Van Kirk of Oregon; a sister, Ruth Morris of Forest City; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are today, Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Craig Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jim Brown will officiate.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Craig.

The Schooler Funeral Home, Craig, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
