Mary K. (Kate) Casteel was born on May 27, 1922, and passed away on Mary 11, 2008. She was the older daughter of John L. and Carrie E. (Twaddell) Pflaumer, and grew up on the family farm near Craig, Mo., where she resided until entering Northview Manor in Tarkio, Mo., in 2005. She attended Cherry Dale Country School and graduated from Craig High School with the class of 1940. She also attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo., and Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.
On June 23, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Casteel and they farmed on the family homestead where they continued to live after their retirement. Lloyd passed away in September, 1984. Kate was a lifelong member of Craig Presbyterian Church where she served in numerous church and Sunday school offices. She was a member of the Cherry Dale GT Club, was active in the Craig summer baseball program while her son was young, was a former member of the Craig chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed watching her son participate in high school sports. While Lloyd was alive they both enjoyed playing bingo and bowling.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her son, John J. Casteel, of Craig; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jane and Kenneth Bishop of Leoti, Kan., and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The service was Friday, at the Presbyterian Church in Craig and the burial followed at Oddfellows Cemetery, Craig, Mo.
