Mrs. Dale Felumb Dies in Car-Train Crash
Mrs. Mary E. Felumb, 55, of Craig, was killed at 4:25 o\\\'clock Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23, when the car she was driving was struck by a train at a crossing near the depot there.
The tragic accident was investigated by Holt County Coroner, Dr. James Humphrey, Sheriff Wayne Hutton, Craig City Marshal Archie Agnew, and Sgt. R.D. Matthews.
According to the officer\\\'s report, Mrs. Felumb was driving west on a city street and pulled into the path of Burlington Northern train, Extra 5464, which was traveling north. The car, a 972 Mercury sedan, was knocked 94 feet by the impact and was demolished.
Mrs. Felumb was pronounced dead at the scene. The engineer of the train, Larry E. Worley, and conductor, Wallace N. Paden, both of St. Joseph, were not injured.
Mrs. Felumb was born May 9, 1919, in Craig and graduated from high school there. She was a member of the Craig Christian Church.
On Nov. 9, 1938, she was married in St. Joseph to Dale K. Felumb, who is now manager-partner of United Tractors, Inc., near Craig, and she was an employee there.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Kirby Dale Felumb, a student at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville; her mother, Mrs. Emma Dougherty, Craig, and father, John R. Dougherty, Mound City; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Wilma) Thurnau, Craig, Mrs. Eugene (Evelyn) Wake, Fairfax, and Mrs. Helen Sterling, Denver, Colo.; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Craig Christian Church with the Rev. William Hodge officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig.
