Mr. Lewis Arthur Wickens, 83, of Mound City, Mo., passed away on Ja. 24, 2007 a a Fairfax, Mo., hospital.
Lew was born Jan. 8, 1924 in Liberty, Mo. He and his family moved to Riverside, Calif., when he was twelve.
He served in the Air Force during World War II as a fighter pilot. He flew P-47\\'s and was shot down in September 1944 and taken Prisoner of War. Lew was released after nine months and returned home to receive the Purple Heart.
After the sevice, he completd his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from UCLA and began his career specializingin frozen food. He served as Vice President of General Foods for fifteen years working primarily in the Caribbean and new York areas. Lew worked as a frozen food specialist for more than 35 years.
Upon retirement in 1989, Lew joined the Story-Hardin Post No. 164, Amrican Legion in Craig. He later moved to Mound City and transferred his mebership to the Paul P. Shutts, Post No. 121, American Legion in Mound City. He was a member and past State Commander of the Ax-POW Association and several other veterans\\' organizations. He and Lois were members of the Mound City Presbyterian Church.
He married Joyce James o this marriage they had two sons, Brue Wickens of Venice, Calif. and Calvin Wickens of Rochester, N.Y. Lew an Joyce were later divorced On Jan 1, 1966 he married Lois Doebbeling. She survives of the home.
Lew was preceed in death by his parents, Lewis Albert and Agnes (Ramsdale) Wickens; a brother, William; and two sisters, Bevery Fowler and jewell Holcomb.
Additional survivors include his sister, Mary Price of Santa Maria, Calif; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Jan 27 at the Pettijohn
