CRAIG, Mo. — Michael L. Whetsel, 55, passed away August 24, 2010, at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Mo.
He was born on November 26, 1954, in Falls City, Neb., and graduated from Craig High School in 1973.
On September 18, 1982, he married Candice "Candy" Brown at the Craig Church of God. She survives of their home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald V. Whetsel.
He is also survived by children and their spouses: Ellie and Paul James of Decorah, Iowa; Jenny and Steve Stevens of Mound City; Jarod Whetsel and Carmen Patterson of Mound City; and Josie-Erin Whetsel of Craig; mother, Bessie Verlene (Byrd) Whetsel and her husband, Gene Lewis, of Craig; brother, Larry Whetsel of Craig; six grandchildren: Ben Morris, Chloe James, Cory and Zackary Stevens, Bella Whetsel and Daelynn Whetsel; nieces and nephews; and Mike\\\\'s beloved terrier, Maggie.
Mike worked at Rickel Grain in maintenance and as plant manager for more than 20 years. He then worked as a self-employed electrician. For the past several years he has worked as an electrician for Hugh Nauman Construction.
A former alderman, Mike was currently serving as mayor of Craig, Mo. He was a member of the Northwest Holt Fire Protection District for 30 years, and a member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 2, at Nazarene Church, Craig, Mo. Masonic services begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, at Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City, Mo., followed by a family visitation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Inurnment at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, Mo.
