Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at St. John\\\'s Lutheran Church in Corning for Mrs. Bessie Heits, 73, who died Friday, May 30, at her home in Rock Port. The Rev. Donald Jenkins officiated. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery near Craig.
Mrs. Heits, daughter of Carl and Electa (Foster) Volmer, was born Dec. 19, 1908 in Corning.
During her early years she attended St. peters Parochial School in Craig, country school near Corning, and the Corning Public Schools. In 1928, she moved to Rock Port.
On March 2, 1930, she was united in marriage to Will J. Heits. They farmed east of Rock Port for 11 years and then purchased a farm northwest of Craig where they lived and farmed until the fall of 1979. They then moved to Rock Port where they lived to the present time.
Following her early baptism Feb. 17, 1907, and confirmation June 1, 1925, she became a member of St. John\\\'s Lutheran Church in Corning. She was a charter member and held numerous offices in the Lake Short Club; for several years worked with the band mothers organization and served as president for one year.
She is survived by her husband, Will, of the home; three daughters; Melva Shaufler, Shawnee Mission, Kan., Romona Vernon, St. Joseph, and Shirley Quely, Granby, Colo.; three sons, J. C. Heits, Richard Heits and Bernard Heits, all of Fairfax; three sisters, Pearl Gayler, Langdon, Doris Daivs, Raytown, and Barbara Addington, Rock Port; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Her parents, three brothers, Ralph, Roy and Ben, and one grandson, Timothy Mikel Roach, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers for the service were Craig Heits, Gary Vernon, Michael Heits, Todd Heits, Shane Heits and Galen Vernon. Honorary pallbearers were John Heits, Garrett Vernon and Matthew Heits.
Nancy Jenkins was organist.
