Cleota L.(Whetsel) Monroe, 86, Tarkio, Mo., formerly of Craig, Mo., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at a health-care center in Tarkio.

Born in Atchison county, Mo., near Hamburg, Iowa, on March 19, 1913, Mrs. Monroe was reared and lived in Atchison County after her marriage for two years, and then moved to Holt county, Mo., near Craig.

She graduated from the Hamburg High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. Monroe attended the Church of God at Craig.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester C. Monroe in 1973; her parents, Walter and Glennie Whetsel; a brother, Don Whetsel; and a sister, Mary Snider.

Surviving: a son, Paul D., Craig; a daughter, Patsy Brandt, Fairfax, Mo.; a sister, Janice Moore, Falls City, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services: Friday, May 7, 1999, at Church of God, Craig, Mo.
Burial: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, Mo.
