Samuel Neely
Born Oct. 28, 1866 in Morgantown, WV
Died Nov. 10, 1936 in Corning, MO
After a long illness, Sam Neely passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Evan Dankers at Corning, Mo., Tuesday, Nov. 10. Mr. Neely had been in failing health for several years and the past seven months he had been confined to his bed.

Sam Neely was probably one of the best known men in all of the Craig community. Practically all his life was spent there and for 26 years he served that city as city marshal. He performed his duty as marshal and so far as known, never made an enemy by so doing. Quietly and serenely he performed his service to his city.

Mr. Neely owned and operated a dray and express line in Craig from a young man until he was unable to carry on that work. Many has been the packages he has delivered. But seven years ago, he had to give up the work because he was physically unable to carry on and since then had made his home at Corning with his daughters.

Sam Neely was born at Morgantown, W. Virginia Oct. 28, 1866, and departed this life Nov. 10, 1936 having reached the age of 70 years and 12 days.

When very young he came with his parents to Iowa where they lived a short time and in Kansas two years, and after a short while in Craig, where he grew to manhood. He was married Oct. 13, 1897, to Miss Bessie Wickiser. She preceded her husband in death in 1917. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Evan Dankers, Mrs. Dale HIskey and Mrs. Ivan McPike, of Corning and two sons, Keith Neely of Corning and Glenn Neely.

He was a member of the Christian Church and Fraternal Order of S.B.A. Services at the Methodist Church, Craig and Burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig.
