George Richard Thomas, 70, died unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 1996, at his home in Craig.
Mr. Thomas, the only son of Louis S. and Ellen Bee Foster Thomas, was born Sept. 17, 1916, near Craig and was a lifelong resident of that community. He was raised by his grandmother, Anna Louise Foster, who preceded him in death in 1950.
He had worked for the railroad during the Depression, drove a truck for W.I. Hines for over 20 years was a farm laborer, and was employed by Rickel Inc. from 1966 until his retirement in 1978.
Survivors include three sons, Jack Thomas and Dick Thomas, both of Craig, and Jerry Thomas, Kansas City; two sisters, Virginia Craeger and Charlotte Chrisopher, both of St. Joseph; five grandsons, Richard Thomas, Chad Thomas, Kelly Thomas and Andy Thomas, all of Craig, Mike Thomas and wife, Amy, Higley, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Terry Brookshire, Virginia Beach, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
Services under the direction of the Schooler Funeral Home, Craig, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Craig Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Michael Arnold officiating. The soloist, Betty Wennihan, sang "One Day At A Time" and "Amazing Grace." She was accompanied by Becky Arnold. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, near Craig.
Pallbearers were George Mackey, David Trauernicht, Harold Gray, Edwin Wright, John Trauernicht, and Junior Worley.
