"Services were held for Charles Lee Fitzgerald, 21, of Craig, MO, Wednesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church at Craig, with the Rev. Charles Goodman officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Craig.
Mr. Fitzgerald was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-car crash on Highway 275 about three miles southeast of Oregon. He and Ralph V. Rundle, 23, of Mound City were passengers in a car driven by Paul Dean Monroe, 22, of Craig.
The three young men were returning from an air national guard meeting in St. Joseph, when a car driven by Harvey Stephen Elder, 16, of Oregon, attempted to make a left turn onto Route A at the Elder service station, and crashed nearly head-on with the Monroe car.
Elder is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Elder, Oregon, and a junior at the Oregon High School. He and the two other injured youth were taken to the General Osteopathic Hospital in St. Joseph. He suffered a concussion, arm lacerations, cuts and bruises. His condition is stated as fair.
Monroe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Monroe, Craig, suffered a skull fracture and severe laceration over the left eye. His condition is serious. Rundle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rundle of Maryville, Mo., suffered possible internal injuries and a fracture of the left leg. His condition is reported as critical.
The accident was investigated by Sheriff Floyd Ramsey and Deputy Sheriff Carl Mackey and the state patrol. Both cars were demolished."
